Projects Takes-off as Normalcy Returns
The population of Konye Sub-division in Meme Division, South West region have lauded the government for the wide range of development projects allocated to the subdivision. This was during a 2-day visit to Konye Sub-division by a Joint Control Mission assigned by the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, on 18-19 June 2025.
The mission was headed by the Project Engineer from the Joint Financed Road Projects Unit of the Ministry of Public Works.
The projects concerned include the construction of market hangars at Ikiliwindi, Weme and Wone; the rehabilitation of the Ikiliwindi-Matoh road; the construction of 2 blocks of classrooms in Kokaka and Ndoi; the construction of the Women’s Empowerment Center in Konye; the rehabilitation of the Konye District hospital, rehabilitation of the Forestry Control Post, construction of a Multipurpose Youth Center, construction of 9 boreholes and the construction solar-drying slabs at Ikiliwindi and Ndoi.
The listed projects that were allocated as offshoots of the tarring of the Kumba-Mamfe road, were awarded since in 2018, but were stalled due to the Anglophone conflict.
But the projects now about to be started, and are expected to be completed by end of this year for some, while others should be completed by March 2026.
At an enlarged meeting that took place at the Konye Council and attended by the Divisional officer of Konye, Attah Moses Ndep, the Mayor of Konye, Dr Barrister Musima George Lobe, the Divisional Delegate of Public works, Azange Emmanuel and other stakeholders, it was agreed that the various contractors should speed up with their work as the deadline for their projects is drawing near.
The Mayor of Konye urged the various contractors to be committed with their work and make use of the available labour force within the community. He discouraged the use of child labor by contractors and wished that local authorities should be fully involved in the execution of projects in the future.
Corroborating the Mayor, the DO regretted that his services are not consulted in the large scale program.
For his part, the head of the control mission, disclosed that the projects are jointly sponsored by the Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) and the government of Cameroon and there are laid down rules and regulations that must be respected.
He warned that bills shall not be paid to projects that were poorly executed, and that the various contractors should liaise with the local authorities inorder to successfully carry out the projects.
The control team later left for Nguti and Mamfe for similar exercises.
