Public Independent Conciliator’s Office Seeks Collaboration Between Council, CitizenSome staff of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator, OPIC of the South west region have paid a one day working visit to the Konye Council on Wednesday October 30, 2024 at the Konye Council Business center. The meeting aimed at creating a relax atmosphere between the population and the Council was effected under the theme “Office of the Public Independent Conciliator:seeking an operational partnership between the Konye municipality and it’s citizens to ensure effective services delivery”.
Representing the Public Independent Conciliator, Madam Telelen Dorothy Atabong Spouse Motaze in absentia was the Research Officer no-1 in OPIC, Bernard Fonju. He began by congratulating the Divisional Officer and the Mayor for the active role they played in mobilizing the population within short notice for their visit. He as well thanked the participants for their massive presence.
He noted that, their presence in Konye was to engage with the community stakeholders of Konye to establish a functional partnership with the municipality in order to enhance effective services delivery. Adding that his expectations was that the population this time around participate actively in the monetering and execution of projects undertaking by the Konye Council.
While Underscoring the need for Frank collaboration, he advised the Council to move more closer to the population for effective decentralisation be ensured.
Taking the queue, the Lord Mayor of the Konye Council, Dr Barrister Musima George Lobe began by lauding a report written by the Public Independent Conciliator on the State of affairs of Councils and the Konye Council in particular. Noting that, the report was very frank as it pointed out the situation on the ground of Konye Council.
He pointed out that he was elated to see the OPIC in Konye as it will enable them to lived the realities the Council has been facing characterize with insecurity. He however thanked the State for ensuring security at last by establishing a military detachment in Konye.
He promised to establish a more fruitful and firm collaboration between the Konye Council and the users more than ever before. He then wished the Officials of OPIC a safe return as well as the participants.
Corroborating the Mayor, was the Divisional Officer of Konye Attah Moses Ndep. He commended the efforts made by OPIC in re- establishing a close working partnership between the Council and it’s users. Adding that such partnership may go a long way in creating an enabling environment for normalcy to return. He as well thanked the government for allocating a military detachment base in Konye.
For his part, Ekellem Desmond Mbong, Communication Officer of OPIC presented a report on the foundation of the institution, it’s mission as well as what and who to complain to the hearing of OPIC
He stated that the fundamental of OPIC is to examine and amicable settle disputes between users of services offered by Regional and Local authorities.
The town hall meeting ended satisfactory with every participants taking as a commitments to play their respective roles for decentralisation to be effective.
