NW Fons Pay Courtesy Visit To Konye
Boost National Integration, Living Together
A courtesy visit paid by some Fons of the North West Region to Konye town in Konye Sub-division in Meme division of the South West region, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, has fostered national integration and living together among indigenes and the North West community in the sub-division.
Led by the President of the General Assembly of the North West Fons’ Union (NOWEFU), His Majesty Senator Fon Teche Njei of Ngien-Muwa, the delegation also comprised of the Fons of Bambui, Kedjom-Ketigom, Kai and Bujung
On hand to welcome the Fons of the North West region to Konye were the Divisional Officer of Konye Sub-division, Attah Moses Ndep; Mayor of Konye Council, Dr. Barrister Musima George Lobe; traditional rulers of Konye Subdivision, and; the living forces in the division.
The visit started with a peace walk from the palace of the Chief of Konye Town (Bakundu), His Majesty Mediko John Mediko III, to the ceremonial ground at the esplanade of Konye Council, by traditional rulers of Konye Sub-division and the Fons of the North West Region.
In an address on the occasion, Mayor Musima Lobe, Officer of the Cameroon Order of Merit, expressed happiness in welcoming everybody to Konye municipality, stating that it was a privilege and honour to the over 80,000 inhabitants of the administrative unit.
He noted, Konye Sub-division has four indigenous tribes which include Bakundu, Mbonge, Bafaw and Balong, spread in some 37 villages.
Musima revealed that the main stay of the population is agriculture but the people also carried out fishing, trade and crafts.
According to the mayor, there is a great deal of peaceful co-existence in Konye as demonstrated by the indigenes and other tribes.
“Worth mentioning is that the Chief of Menka in the North West Region lives in Ngolo Bolo in Konye Sub-division. North Westerners are municipal councillors here and many are involved.
